If The World Picked U.S. President…
…then we wouldn’t be the U.S.
(NPR) The presidential election here at home is neck and neck. The Real Clear Politics average of the popular vote puts Gov. Mitt Romney 0.6 percent ahead of President Obama. But if the world had its say, this election would be a blowout favoring the incumbent.Thats according to a BBC World Service poll taken in 21 countries. It found for the most part, foreign countries preferred Obama. The only exception was Pakistan where more people said they preferred Romney.Heres the key graphic:This graph is organized by support for Obama.

Questions: Is this something Americans should worry about? Is this something Americans should be proud about? The distinction between the world and the U.S. means that there is a difference between the world and the U.S. They want something that we don’t necessarily want. And does this make sense? Or is it a sign that we are out of touch, as the saying goes.
One way to look at this issue is by flipping the picture. Who would Americans vote for in Germany, France, Greece, Kenya? Would we vote for the winner there? It’s possible, of course, considering Americans knew who was running for office in other countries. But, chances are, we would not vote for the favorites overseas. The fact is, most countries are in bad shape because they keep choosing the wrong leaders to run their accounts. If we were to run our country the way that other countries run theirs, we’d probably be in the same kind of trouble.
And, so, it seems this discrepancy might be a sign that we are actually on the right track. We might not be perfect, but at least we are better than the world to some degree.
